Water Well Technician Course 

THIS COURSE OF STUDY IS DIRECTOR-APPROVED UNDER R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 903 (WELLS)

Since 2003 and in response to improperly trained persons working on drinking water systems causing illnesses (e.g., Walkerton Ontario incident), the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (the ministry) requires all new well technician licence applicants obtain a course of study of at least 30 hours approved by the ministry’s appointed Director.  

Water Wells in Ontario:  Rules, Exemptions and Best Management Practices  

A 30 hour course for Ontario water well technician licence applicants, approved by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.  

The course is designed to:   

  • meet the education requirement of the Wells Regulation, 
  • improve long standing compliance issues,   
  • help protect groundwater resources,   
  • help protect drinking water,  
  • protect your company’s liability, and  
  • protect your own liability.

    In some cases, the course schedule does not have to run on consecutive days and can be split to accommodate the applicant’s needs (e.g., 2 days a week over a 2 to 3 week period).  
  5. The course is not restricted by minimum or maximum enrolment numbers. 
    Depending on the desired training location, the course can be offered to various sized groups including a single individual.  
  6. The fee covers all expenses for the instructor and location.

Water Wells in Ontario: Rules, Exemptions and Best Management Practices covers topics on well:  

  • construction (including equipment installation and repairs),   
  • maintenance, 
  • abandonment, 
  • reporting, and 
  • licensing. 

The course is designed for all persons who work at the construction of any type of well (e.g., water supply well, test hole, dewatering well) and the installation of equipment in a well (e.g., pumps, testing, sampling equipment).  

The course offers diagrams, photographs and videos to help clarify the rules and best management practices.  

The course is based on the following ministry publications:   

  • Water Supply Wells – Requirements and Best Management Practices Manual, and 
  • Test Holes and Dewatering Wells – Requirements and Best Management Practices Manual. 

Course Fee – $2,212.39 excluding HST
